Das hat der iranische Präsident so nicht gesagt."

Die Keule oder Das Verdikt "Antisemitismus" ist geläufig

Nicht ganz zehn Jahre ist es her, da erklärte die Friedensaktivistin, Autorin und Ex-Erziehungsministerin Israels Shulamit Aloni, was die Antisemitismuskeule ist, in den USA sowie in Europa, je nachdem.

Der kurze Ausschnitt aus einem Interview mit Amy Goodman (der Frontfrau von Democracy Now!) fehlt - wenig überraschend - im deutschen Wikipedia Eintrag, während er im englischsprachigen vorhanden ist:

Goodman: Yours is a voice of criticism we don't often hear in the United States. Often when there is dissent expressed in the United States against policies of the Israeli government, people here are called anti-semitic. What is your response to that as an Israeli Jew?

Aloni: Well, it's a trick, we always use it. When from Europe somebody is criticizing Israel, then we bring up the Holocaust. When in this country people are criticizing Israel, then they are anti-Semitic. And the organization is strong, and has a lot of money, and the ties between Israel and the American Jewish establishment are very strong and they are strong in this country, as you know. And they have power, which is OK. They are talented people and they have power and money, and the media and other things, and their attitude is "Israel, my country right or wrong", identification. And they are not ready to hear criticism. And it's very easy to blame people who criticize certain acts of the Israeli government as anti-Semitic, and to bring up the Holocaust, and the suffering of the Jewish people, and that is justify everything we do to the Palestinians.

Nun, 10 Jahre danach, wurde die deutsche Öffentlichkeit wieder einmal Zeuge der großzügigen Anwendung dieser rustikalen wie einfachen aber auch äußerst erfolgreichen Methode, als der deutsche Schriftsteller Günther Grass letzte Woche ein Gedicht veröffentlichte, in dem er das Land Israel kritisierte (er hätte vielmehr verschiedene Regierungen Israels kritisieren sollen, denn Israel besteht ja nun wirklich nicht nur aus Kriegstreibern, ganz im Gegenteil). Logisch gesprochen ist die Keule ein argumentum ad hominem (also überhaupt kein Argument), praktisch gesehen ein Totschlagargument oder killer phrase. Und wie die Keule da niedersauste auf das Haupt des deutschen Nobelpreisträgers für Literatur! Grass hatte sie aber schon  im Gedicht selbst vorausgeschickt: "das Verdikt "Antisemitismus" ist geläufig." 

Das kann doch nicht wahr sein !?

"[...] Und dann haben wir den großen Konzern von Springer, den tonangebenden Konzern in den Printmedien, und Springer ist explizit, ausgesprochen verpflichtet amerikanischen und israelischen Interessen. D.h. jeder Redakteur, jeder Mitarbeiter muß bei Einstellung eine entsprechende Erklärung unterschreiben, daß er nicht anti-amerikanisch und anti-israelisch veröffentlicht [...]" Jürgen Elsässer in einem Interview über die Deutsche Medienlandschaft

Listen Carefully to Mr. Blix!

Another important document regarding the war propaganda against Iran: Hans Blix, former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, talks about the the US government's use of faked evidence before the Iraq war and the duty of the agency to thoroughly review and present to the public the "information" passed to them by various secret services. (A damn good advice!) Blix also points out his doubts in respect to the infamous "wipe off the map" saying (still being repeated ad nauseam by Western politicians and  mass media infotainment). He makes clear what it means to get near to a decision to produce nuclear weapons and to effectively produce them and mentions the reluctance of any country to let each of their military sites be inspected by a 3rd party. Blix states that in the 1980ies the Iranians "were denied the import of enriched uranium for their research reactor. They tried to buy it from the US and paid but they didn't get it and they didn't get the money back. So they can say that there is some justification that they do not rely the outside world to deliver and that this is the background why they start their own ... "

Lots of interesting information and memorable statements in this Al Jazeera interview, essentially consistent with the summary given by German Jürgen Elsässer in the previous post.

The Illusion of the Bomb Threatening the Existence of Israel

Suppose for a moment that Iran possessed nuclear weapons ready-to-use. Suppose further that the logic of the Cold War applies: if two states, opposed and armed with very destructive weaponry, command a second strike capability, they will not attack each other. Since Israel possesses nuclear WMD on land and sea - as we further assume, it follows that Iran will not drop the bomb.

So why should a nuclear Iran be a threat to the existence of Israel then?

Suppose further that Iran would launch a nuclear attack or war on Israel and the country could not respond with a second strike. What would happen next?

Note first how implausible this assumption is: for what reason should Iran destroy and make uninhabitable a part of a small region in the Middle-East which the Mullahs think to belong to the Palestinian people? What would that be good for? 

So what would happen to a country after launching a nuclear attack on Israel? For much less than such a supposed tragedy other countries have been invaded and devastated, e.g. recently Afghanistan and Iraq. You may expect wild and furious reactions from the rest of the world, led by the United States. Iran would be doomed.

So why would Iran's rich Mullahs risk all of their flourishing businesses and their unchallenged predominance inside the country? For the sake of the Palestinian people? Hardly.

Given these assumptions mentioned above, the idea of preventing Iran to acquire nuclear weapons cannot be based on the fear caused by the alleged "wiping off Israel from the map"-saying. That would be totally unreasonable, against the Cold War logic and survival instincts on the part of Iran.

Nevertheless, the gossip of a "nuclear Iran threatening the existence of Israel" is repeated over and over again by the majority of mass media entertainment around the globe. It is astonishing how persistent this naive idea of the bomb is chanted hysterically ad nauseam, remaining largely unchallenged and thereby obscuring far more convincing economical and geostrategic reasons to start a war against Iran - at least from the viewpoint of the US and their allies.

Is there an explanation of how it is possible that the illusion (under above assumptions) of a "threat of the existence of Israel" is widely accepted?

Yes, there is a reasonable psychological explanation. The logic of nuclear deterrence is quickly suspended by portraying one opponent as crazy, as dangerous madman in possession of a deadly weapon. This has been accomplished by decades of illustrating the "arabs" (muslims) as subhumans and as incalculable, wild, fanatic villains. (See Jack Shaheen's survey "Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People", documentary version on youtube). Hollywood movies, the constant stream of releases dealing with alleged and actual terrorist acts (thereby overstating the danger of "international terrorism"), up to stone throwing children in Palestine - all this is suggesting a picture of primitive creatures unable to handle appropriately a deadly toy such as nuclear technology. In addition, bigmouthed Ahmadinedschad is really a fine and much welcomed leader of the opponent to be put into the role of the "devil on duty" (see principle III of Morelli's Principles of War Propaganda) - though in reality he has not much to say in clerical Iran. These are the ingredients which make even those people who have created this atmosphere of islamophobia believe in their own propaganda lies.
